EXPRESS ASPHALT GOES GREEN - TWICE

Express Asphalt, an Aggregate Industries business, has supplied special macadam Bardon Europave in green to its first customer in the Midlands, for two highways projects in Birmingham.

Bardon Europave is one of Aggregate Industries’ superior coloured asphalt brands, incorporating a penetration grade translucent binder to provide a range of pigmented and natural aggregate finishes. Supplied in a range of colours including blue, red, buff and green, Bardon Europave has the same workability and strength characteristics as conventional asphalt highway surfacings.

Express Asphalt’s Darlaston plant in the West Midlands supplied 250 tonnes of 0/14mm green Europave 65psv for the first highways job undertaken by Bardon Contracting for the City of Birmingham. This was for a red route works in Birmingham where the special green mix was used for the demarcation of the bus lanes.

A second contract for Birmingham City Council, comprising 1,500 tonnes of green Bardon Europave, has just been completed by Bardon Contracting, for further green routes in Birmingham city centre.

Chris Currie, Express Asphalt’s area business manager for the Midlands said: “Both jobs highlight our ability to produce special branded macadams in smaller quantities across our network of Express Asphalt depots. As a result of these successful projects, we are confident that we can successfully manufacture and supply Bardon Europave to meet any customer requirement, large or small.”

As a supplier of smaller quantities of asphalt - around 2½ to 3 tonnes - Express Asphalt is a regular provider to many of the UK’s local authorities and utility companies as well as to a mixture of light industrial and consumer projects such as driveways.
