EXPRESS ASPHALT’S
EVENING DELIVERIES EASE CONGESTION ON HUDDERSFIELD’S ROADS
Express Asphalt’s Huddersfield plant, based at Red Doles Lane,
demonstrated the lengths it goes to meet customer requirements recently,
when it provided a range of asphalt products over night to Balfour
Beatty Power Network, to complete reinstatement works and minimise
traffic congestion.
A leading supplier of smaller quantities of asphalt
– one to three tonnes - Express Asphalt Huddersfield supplies
a range of products including black and coloured macadam and asphalt,
sub base, aggregates, asphalt emulsions and protective equipment.
The plant is set up to offer either a delivery or collection service
for local authorities, utility companies, surfacing and construction
companies and pavers based in and around the Huddersfield area,
and for commercial light industrial and consumer projects, such
as driveways.
As part of its contract to provide ducting works
for electrical infrastructure, Balfour Beatty Power Network required
a variety of asphalt materials to reinstate St Andrews Road in Huddersfield.
This included 20mm binder, hot rolled asphalt (HRA), stone mastic
asphalt (SMA) and sandcarpet (a sand / bitumen mix).
Commenting, Dave Shaw, Business Manager for Express
Asphalt, said, “The contract was carried out during the night
to minimise traffic congestion as this is a busy main road within
Huddersfield.
“Because small quantities of binder and surface
course were required each evening, we provided Balfour Beatty with
a mobile hotbox (three-tonne capacity) into which we loaded the
surface course and an Express delivery truck which delivered the
binder course when the customer required the material.
“This flexible approach enabled the project
to be completed within Balfour Beatty’s planned time constraints.”
Express Asphalt has a network of plants throughout
the UK, which are easily accessible by transport networks and are
carefully located to reduce travelling times for local customer
collections. All plants can produce small loads of asphalt thereby
minimising waiting times, and are designed to facilitate quick and
efficient loading.
